Fully engage in prayer
“Keep watching and praying, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matt. 26:41 NAS).
We will fully comprehend the mysteries behind prayer only after we step into eternity where we know all things. Prayer is crucial for a victorious daily Christian life. And it is an option, because you will have to choose to pray or not. A prayerless Christian life is a life that will ultimately show spiritual dryness, struggles, and repeated defeats and failures at the challenges life throws at us.
One of the greatest errors in prayer I have noticed in the House of God is made by believers who start to pray only once adversity strikes. They seek God only when they run into trouble. Some even resort to prayer only after all other options have failed. Do not let this happen to you this year! It is hard to build spiritual muscles in the midst of trouble. There is a reason why Satan starts the destruction of a Christian’s life by keeping them away from God. Prayer keeps your life always aflame with God’s fire and glory. Keep watching and praying without becoming discouraged.
MEDITATE
Why does the Lord instruct us in the verse above to pray before temptation comes? Can you think of some reasons why the flesh is weak in prayer? See Gal. 5:17, Rom. 8:5.
APPLY THE WORD!
An instruction to be acted upon from the devotional above is “keep watching and praying.” Do you need to do something about your prayer life? Is your prayer life under attack? Take a step away from today to create time to pray. Remember that the time will hardly be freely given to you. You will need the wisdom to make the time for the things that are most important for you!
PRAY
Ask the Spirit of the Lord to create a hunger in your heart this year for prayer. Pray that you will have the wisdom to create the time to spend with your Father.
