Dealing with Shame
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear… (Rev. 3:15-18 KJV).
Shame is a painful feeling of humiliation or distress that results from our consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior that is worthy of public disgrace and dishonor. One primary cause of shame is nakedness! None of us wants anyone out there in public to see our nudity. It brings about public disgrace and humiliation. Jesus speaking to the Church of Laodicea says they should buy clothing from Him to cover the shame of their nakedness(spiritual).
Shame entered the world when sin came in in Genesis 3. Sin, errors, mistakes and foolish behaviors will always happen with shame. The enemy can use shame to keep us tied to our past and completely destroy our lives. He knows the power of shame. The blessing we have today is that Christ has become our identity and through forgiveness and the garment of Christ’s righteousness we receive at salvation, our shame has been erased. Our worthiness or unworthiness is no longer based on us but on Who our Savior is.
All He wants from you is to come to Him—always. If you have sinned, do not try to cover it up. Isolation, hiding, and covering-up are three weapons of mass destructions in Satan’s hands to destroy us in silence. The enemy will have a feast on our lives if we try to hide our sins. Confess your sins, receive forgiveness and do not ever allow Satan to use shame to destroy your life.
MEDITATE
What happens to us when we try to cover up our sins? ( Prov. 28:13)
APPLY THE WORD
Your shame was rolled away the day you received Christ. Do not give in to Satan’s lies; trust in what your Savior has made you become. Also, do not try to cover up your sins, isolate yourself or hide. Open up, to God always and trusted spiritual authorities around you as needed and be free.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the blessing of salvation in Christ that cloths us with the garments of righteousness.Â

What if you continue in the same sin over and over and over again… It just feels hopeless and it feels like you keep failing God
Emmanuel, thank you for the comment. That is a real problem many christians are facing. If a christian continues in sin repeatedly, something is wrong. It means they do not have spiritual strength to overcome sin. Living above sin is not an issue of whether we are devoted or willing. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the frustration of many christians. They are trying to do what God has said they cannot do by themselves. In summary, there are three key things to leverage or build up spiritual strength through the Spirit. The first is surrender. Willingness to die to your own desires and allow the Spirit take over. As long as your flesh is still in control, son will always dominate and control you. The second is the Word. Many christians don’t feed on the Word and are surprised if they have no spiritual strength to overcome sin. The third is prayer. It is that simple. If you see a christian who is struggling with the same sin again and again, you will see problems with two or all three of these basic things.
