Cultivating a Thankful Heart
It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: (Ps. 92:1 KJV).
A thankful heart is a jewel in the realm of the spirit. Not only has God commanded us to be thankful, but a thankful heart is able to connect with God, and receive much-needed help. A joyful, thankful attitude allows God into your world to help you.
Many believers think their prayers are not answered, because God said “no”, but it takes more than God saying “yes” to receive what you’ve prayed for. Even if God wants to give you what you long for, the state of your heart determines if you can receive it.
The moment you start grumbling and complaining about your situation, you turn off God’s ability to work in your life, leaving you to fight your battles alone. Nothing will increase the longevity of our suffering, struggles, and challenges in life, like an ungrateful, complaining, worried, bitter, and unforgiving attitude.
God may have said “yes” to your prayers in the past, but you could not, and did not, receive His blessing, because your heart was not in the right state. It was not because God said “no”; it was because your heart could not receive. You must keep a thankful, joyful attitude to give God room to work in your life. Guard your heart, and maintain a spirit of thankfulness and joy.
MEDITATE
What is one reason why the psalmist above said it is good to give thanks unto the Lord?
APPLY THE WORD
Do you usually have a thankful attitude? If you are not thankful for the things you see people do for you, it will be even harder to be thankful to an unseen God.
PRAY
Ask the Spirit to help you develop a thankful attitude.
