“To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness” (Isa. 61:3 KJV).
Think of a beautiful house that you know of that has burned down. The beauty of the house has just been reduced to ashes. God often describes our lives as houses built on a foundation. Some people’s health is in ashes. Others have their families, finances, spiritual life, or ministry in ashes from last year.
God wants to bring beauty out of the ashes of our lives. Can you remember how the World Trade Center in New York following the 9/11 attacks was changed from rubble to a magnificent structure? That is what God wants to do in every aspect of our lives. Beauty for ashes is a picture of the working of grace. When we are touched with divine favor, beauty results from ashes, joy replaces mourning, and we put on our clothing of praise instead of depression! You have found favor with God because of Christ. Grace wants to touch you and make your life glow this year.
Is it God’s will to give you beauty for the ashes of your life? See Ephesians 1:5-6.
APPLY THE WORD
Can you see beauty in that area of your life where there are currently ashes? If you still cannot, step out and open your eyes of faith. God does not want you to try to change the ashes to beauty. He wants you to believe Him, because He is the Word who calls light from darkness. If you believe God, your attitude will change. Have you lost hope and encouragement? Recover them today!
Thank the Lord for His goodness in your life through the work of Jesus Christ.
