Whom do Men Say that I the Son of Man Am?
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? (Matthew 16:13 KJV)
Jesus, as God in the flesh, is the central human figure in human history. The destiny of every human being hangs on who they think or believe this Man is. There is no question more important to humanity than this: Who is Jesus? Our answer is a matter of life or death, heaven or hell, finding God or missing Him forever.
Jesus asked His disciples the same question—what do people say that I am? People had different opinions of who He was, from Elijah, John the Baptist, to one of the prophets. After listening to their responses, he turned the tides and directed the question to them — who do you say I am? (Matthew 16:15 KJV)
Two groups are identified in this passage: the general population and His people. First, Jesus heard what the world had to say about Him. Then He listened to what His people had to say. Thankfully, Peter spoke the revelation the Father had given them. Human eternal destiny and wellbeing hang on that revelation and confession. However, the revelation of Jesus as the Christ is the foundation of God’s House; greater and deeper revelations of Him are needed to complete the House!
Therefore, your revelation of that Man — Jesus, shapes your life and redirects your destiny.
What is your revelation of who Jesus is and what He did?
Know Jesus. Expand and deepen your revelation of Who He is and the grace He brought because your Christian experience centers on that knowledge of Him. When Jesus is revealed, human destinies are forever altered. That is what happened to you at salvation, yet it was just the beginning. Jesus wants to reveal Himself again, this time not to save you, but to bring you into higher realms of intimacy and glory. Grow in your revelation of the Master.
Ask the Father to reveal His Son to you.
