What shall we then say to these things?
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 KJV)
Romans 8:31 above has been a comfort to believers across the ages. It reminds us of a profound truth regarding our privileged position in Christ. It implicitly describes our enemies as utterly powerless before the supreme God who is on our side.
After Paul had described the life of the Spirit in verses 1-30 in the same chapter, he then proceeds to ask the rhetorical question “what shall we then say to these things”? What can you really say when God has given you His Spirit and by so doing He permanently abides in you and always with you? What can we say when He tells us there is therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ because the One who is the Judge is the One who paid the full prize for our sins on the cross and gave us His righteousness. He knows fully well we are not guilty of a single sin because of His blood. He is on our side, not against us.
If God be for us, who can be against us? All power belongs to Him, and no spiritual or physical power in existence can act except that they are permitted to do so. Your life is not as a vagabond wandering in the wilderness waiting for just anything to happen to you at anytime. There is no match for the God who is for us and working in us by His Holy Spirit in us.
MEDITATE
Please take a moment to ponder and mutter the verse above. Think about what it says. Then say those words to yourself under your breath again and again. That is how you meditate.
APPLY THE WORD
The verse above should bring comfort and re-assurance in your heart. Live today with the reality of these words in your life. God is for you, on your side and working for your benefit so nothing, human or spirit can succeed against you.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the wonderful blessing of being for us.
