Three Things to Do at the End of Each Year

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: (Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV)

There is a time for the year to begin and a time for the year to end. As this year comes to an end, here are three things, amongst many others, to do:

Give thanks for the year behind you. Resist the temptation to accept any suggestion in your mind that there is not much to thank God for. Ingratitude in our hearts repels the supernatural. If you cannot see God’s hand in the small things and give Him thanks, be sure you will hardly see His hands in the bigger things you are hoping for. Look back at the year and give Him thanks as the Spirit leads you.

Assess the year behind you. Think and review what worked, what did not, and why. As a typical charismatic, I have come a long way in discovering how important it is to think with God—Spirit-filled people are prone to belittling activities that involve the mind.

You can provoke inspiration and divine guidance by taking time out to think through your year. It will prevent you from repeating your mistakes and missing your opportunities and also allow you to capitalize on the foundations God laid this year.

Last but not least, prepare for next year. Success is not accidental, even with the Holy Spirit. This preparation can take different forms: spiritual, mental, physical, financial, etc. However, a crucial aspect of preparation is vision and strategy. Be clear about where you want to go and how to get there.

So as the year draws to its close, give thanks, evaluate what is behind you and prepare for what is coming.

Meditate

Do you ever sit quietly and think with God?

Apply the Word

What you have read above transcends scribbling a few new year wishes or resolutions. Manage the end of this year properly! We do not wish ourselves into success; instead, we position ourselves spiritually for it.

Pray

Ask the Father for the wisdom to manage your years properly.
