But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding (Job 32:8 KJV)
As believers, we know that the scripture has told us that man, as created by God, is spirit, soul, and body. There is a spirit inside of us. However, many know very little or nothing about this aspect of our being called the spirit. We have learned about every aspect of the human body. We have entered into the mind and learn about what it is, how it functions and even how to treat some of its diseases. But when it comes to the spirit, the world is completely ignorant. The Spirit of God, however, has revealed to us the mysteries of the human spirit in the scriptures.
God is spirit, and the aspect of our personality as humans that relates to God is the spirit. This is crucial. God connects with us in and through our spirit. Elihu speaking above gives us a profound truth regarding the operation of God through our spirit. He says God gives a man understanding by inspiration in his spirit. The Apostle Paul in the New Testament gives us the fuller revelation by giving us the details using power as the virtue. He prayed for the Ephesians that the Lord “would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man” (Eph. 3:16 KJV). God empowers us through the Holy Spirit( His Breath) in our human spirit(the inner man).
The Lord then instructs us to allow the Spirit through our spirit to lead our lives. There is wisdom, and power, in your spirit from God. You have to learn to draw that life out from your inner man just as a person draws water out from a deep well. Be attentive to your spirit for therein dwells and lives the Spirit of God.
Do unbelievers also have spirits? Why then do they not understand that there is a spirit in man or accept the existence of God? ( Eph. 4:18).
APPLY THE WORD
Just as babies grow to take control of their bodies, so your spirit also grows to take over control of your soul and body. This is the purpose of feeding on the Word and spending hours in prayer. When your spirit becomes strong and established, divine virtues from your inner man will flow out as your natural life. What a life of glory! Grow to maturity.
Ask the Lord to help you grow in your spirit every single day.
