For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4 KJV)
John declares so boldly that whatsoever is born of God, speaking about every single one of God’s children overcomes the world. This is an audacious statement. Overcoming presupposes a conflict, battle or opposition. It means defeating or having the victory over something. In this verse, the enemy to subdue is the world.
The world encapsulates everything sin, death, evil, and the devil operating in the world’s systems. These are the enemies of your life. The Lord speaks through John and says the believer in Christ, born of the Spirit of God, is the one who is capable of defeating or living above all of these dark forces operating around us.
He goes further to tell us what we use to overcome the world. He says the victory that overcomes the world is our faith. The meaning of these words is plain before us. Faith in Christ is your ticket to a victorious life. Please note there are two distinct prerequisites here for victory. The first is to be born again, that is, become a child of God. The second, which builds on the first, is walking in faith. It means victory over this world belongs to the child of God who walks in faith.
Ponder upon every single word in the central verse above. Think through the words and phrases, and say those words to yourself. Ponder and mutter the word.
APPLY THE WORD
Faith overcomes the world—always. Even when believers are killed for the sake of Christ, their death is not defeat but victory. You are born to be victorious. It does not matter who is in government. You are destined to overcome every challenge thrown at you.
Ask the Spirit to strengthen you to walk in faith and the victory He has given to you.
