“But Ruth said, ‘Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God’” (Ruth 1:16 NAS).
Our decisions carry tremendous power in determining the course of our lives. Decisions determine destiny—where you end up. Ruth, from the country of Moab, made a crucial decision in the text above to follow her mother-in-law Naomi to the land of Israel. She is a great grandmother of King David, and an ancestor of Jesus Himself.
We must realize that where we finally end up in life is not directly determined by some destiny that God has planned in heaven, but by what we CHOOSE to do. You have the power to choose a course of life completely different from God’s plan for your life. Still, God wants you to make decisions that will align your life with His pre-ordained destiny for you. That is what happens when you accept Jesus as your Savior. Start making daily decisions this year that will cause you to live in the plan of God for your life.
Does everyone make the right decision when faced with the same circumstances? See what Ruth’s sister-in-law did in Ruth 1:14.
APPLY THE WORD
Decisions change destinies. You are currently on a path, either to failure or to success, based on the decisions you have made. One thing you can do with the Word today is immediately make a decision to stop and turn way from any path you might be walking on that will ultimately lead to pain, grief, and death. Do you have an important decision regarding marriage, money, career, ministry, family, etc.? Do you need to make a decision to turn around?
Ask the Lord for wisdom to make sound decisions that will align your life with His plan of all-round spiritual and material success on earth.
