Struggling with faith?
He (Abraham) did not waver in unbelief about the promise of God but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God (Rom. 4:20 NET).
Many of God’s precious children are struggling with faith. The essence of faith is believing what God has said, and living by the unseen realities of His Word.
I had my fair share of struggles with faith, but not anymore. I remember trying very hard to convince myself to believe God’s Word, and truly allow it to guide and rule my life, as though it really is true. It did not work. I kept struggling to believe, and doubt was my constant companion.
I want you to reread the verse above about Abraham again. The scripture says Abraham was strengthened. This is intentionally translated from the original Greek as a passive verb. Faith, the ability to believe God’s Word, and live by it, is not a human ability. It is an impartation from God’s Spirit, through His Word. This is what happened at the moment of your salvation. Faith was imparted to you to believe God. As you spend time feeding your heart with the Word, faith will grow, and overwhelm your life.
My prayer for you is that after reading this devotional, you will stop your own efforts- every fancy, mechanical routine to build faith, every struggle to help your mind believe- and focus that energy into feeding your heart with the Word. Faith will come unforced, struggle-free.
MEDITATE
What does the passive voice mean? (English or Greek is similar). Declare that “My faith is growing exponentially each day, as the Spirit of God imparts faith in my heart, by the Word”.
APPLY THE WORD
I have given you the secret to growing your faith. Sadly, many Christians spend hours trying to learn all sorts of spiritual gymnastics to build faith, and never do the one thing that matters most. Do not let this happen to you.
PRAY
Ask the Spirit of the Lord to help you grow daily in your faith.
