Resurrection power to tread on serpents and scorpions
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19, KJV)
One of the well-known accomplishments of the resurrection is the power and authority granted to the believers. In Eph 1:15-19, Paul prayed that the eyes of the Ephesians would be opened to know the exceeding greatness of the power God has given them. And in Eph. 3:20, he tells us that this power is in the believer. Let me show you one domain where this power is exercised. It is seen in Luke 10:19 above.
Jesus said He has given us power or rather authority(the Greek word for power in the verse above) to tread on serpents and scorpions. Treading on serpents and scorpions means trampling or crushing them under your feet. It is a figurative expression of absolute authority to crush the opponent.
Was Jesus’ primary concern above physical scorpions and serpents? Absolutely not! The context tells us serpents and scorpions here refer to demonic powers, though it does not exclude the physical. The scripture often uses animal figures to describe demons, the best of which is the serpent for the devil himself. Serpents and scorpions(in plural) indicate different ranks or types of demonic spiritual powers. Ephesians 6:12 tells us there are different ranks of demonic beings. Jesus says all these ranks of demonic powers, from the lowest to the highest, must be crushed under your feet!
I have written extensively on how demons operate in our lives. Whatever form, type or rank they come, Jesus has given you the authority to trample them under your feet.
MEDITATE
How is authority exercised in the spiritual realm? Please take a moment to read Matt 8:9, Matt 8:16, Mark 11:23 and think carefully to understand what they mean in this context.
APPLY THE WORD
Jesus has resurrected, and power is inside of you. Authority exercises that power. Mark 11:23 is God’s blueprint for the exercise of the believer’s authority, that is, learning to rule by speaking in faith. I pray you pay attention to meditate on this until it becomes part of you. There are some snakes and scorpions that will keep biting you until you get annoyed like Paul and speak to them (Acts 16:18). Rule in the midst of your enemies( Ps 110:2) for Christ is risen!
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the blessing of resurrection power in you.
