What is Casting Out Demons?

When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick (Matt. 8:16 KJV).

Casting out demons was an integral part of Jesus’s ministry on the earth which was clearly dominated by teaching, healing and deliverance. The spirits that tormented people in the days of Jesus were not driven out of the earth. They were cast out of people who were possessed with them and could again enter into anyone and cause the same torments if they are given an open door.

The truth is that we might need more of the deliverance ministry today than 2000 years ago because the darkness over the earth is on the rise, not a decline. Darkness represents demonic activity and sin, and the Bible teaches us that darkness shall cover the earth in these last days. The believer in Christ has been given power to not only cast out demons but also to destroy every work of darkness in their lives, homes and communities.
The scripture above gives us the key to casting out demons with the phrase “he cast out the spirits with his word”. Words of authority are the rod in the spirit realm that drive out demons. The Lord has given us authority over demons and that authority is exercised by words. This is why we must learn how to talk to the events in our lives because demons respond to those Spirit-filled words.

MEDITATE

What did Jesus do from our verse above before healing the sick? What would happen if we try to bring healing spiritually or even physically to someone whose sickness has a spiritual cause?

APPLY THE WORD

The Lord has given the power to cast out devils to every believer( Mark 16:18). Start exercising that power through words of authority in your own life and the life of others.

PRAY

Ask the Spirit of God to grant you understanding on how to deal with demonic spirits and their activities in your life or around you.
