My Words Which I Have Put in Your Mouth

As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth… (Isaiah 59:21 KJV)

Does God really put His words in our mouths? While we may feel comfortable having God’s words in our hearts, speaking them aloud can be a strange concept for many of us. Still, God places such importance on speaking His words that He sternly commanded they must never depart from His children’s mouths.

Pause for a moment and consider this idea carefully. God puts His words in our mouths by enabling us to serve as His mouthpiece, speaking His words in His name as if He were the one speaking. When God speaks, His words carry life, wisdom, and power. And for us to speak God’s words as God does, we must have God’s Spirit. For instance, anyone can speak or utter the words of the Bible, but not everyone can speak words that manifest or reveal God. Consequently, in every instance—without exceptions— God always gives the Spirit to anyone who will speak His words.

When a person filled with God’s Spirit speaks God’s words, those words do what the words spoken by God Himself do—because they come from God’s Spirit. Regardless of the manner or setting in which words are spoken, what is essential is that a human being filled and guided by God’s Spirit utters audible words.

Today, we speak God’s words through meditation (Joshua 1:8), teaching, preaching, prophesying, or decreeing (Mark 11:23). God’s words should not depart your mouth!
