Jehovah Shalom

Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites (Judges 6:24, KJV)

Gideon was the Judge in Israel who first used the title “Jehovah Shalom” which means the “LORD is peace”. An Angel of the LORD had appeared to him and he was unaware he was an angel. When the Angel disappeared and Gideon realized it was an Angel of the LORD, he was so frightened and thought he would die. The LORD  said to him “ Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die” (Judges 6:23, KJV). This is the origin of this title Jehovah Shalom.

Jehovah Shalom was the name Gideon gave to the altar he built. It was not originally a title or a name that was used for the LORD. It was later assimilated as a divine title as the people of God realized it was indeed a revelation of Jehovah Himself as the LORD our peace.

I always repeat each each time I discuss these Jehovah titles. Please never forget that all the names and titles of God revealed in the Old Testament are fulfilled in Jesus. The nation of Israel only knew a shadow of the peace of the LORD. Jesus is the fulfillment of Jehovah Shalom. The scripture says “He is our Peace! (Ephesians 2:!4). Jesus said “My peace I give unto you” (John 14:27). In these very troubled days we are living in, let His peace fill your heart.

What is the origin of the title “Jehovah Shalom”? How is Jesus the fulfillment of the Names and Title of Jehovah revealed in the Old Testament? Declare that “He is my peace. I have the peace of Christ and therefore the Lord is my peace here and now”.

You have better things in Christ than the shadow of the Law. Do not look back to the Law. The Law is fulfilled in Jesus. Jehovah my peace has been fulfilled in you in Christ! Rest, enjoy and relax in divine peace!

Bless the Lord for the bountiful  grace of having rivers of peace welling up from within you.
