He poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron’s head
And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron’s head, and anointed him, to sanctify him (Leviticus 8:12 KJV)
The Lord chose Aaron to be the high priest and commanded Moses to pour anointing oil upon His head to anoint him for this office. Aaron had to be anointed to be the high priest. This implies the anointing, which is the Holy Spirit’s operation, was needed for Aaron to serve as the high priest.
What did the anointing do for Aaron? The scripture above says Aaron was anointed to sanctify him. The anointing consecrated and separated him unto God. It was an anointing of cleansing, purifying, separation, and consecration. The anointing oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Aaron, therefore, had to be anointed with the Holy Spirit to be a high priest. There is more about the anointing than just power for miracles.
Do you know that the very day you received Christ, you were anointed with the Holy Spirit? Yes, it was as though God poured anointing oil upon your head too! You have been cleansed, sanctified, and consecrated to God by the coming of the Holy Spirit in you. You are special. As I have taught before, we first receive the Holy Spirit the day we receive Christ. However, there is a subsequent encounter with the Spirit that occurs separately from conversion, which traditionally has been called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. In essence, this next anointing is an anointing with power for service, accompanied by the gifts of the Spirit
However, the oil of God was first poured on your head when Jesus came into your heart. You are anointed.

Did the anointing upon Aaron cause him to work miracles as the prophets did? What was the purpose of this anointing?
APPLY THE WORD
There is one thing that characterizes a Christian above everything else: a Christian has the Holy Spirit. Let this be engrained in your consciousness. You are anointed. There are different operations and dimensions of the anointing, and you can increase each of them. Live every single day being conscious that you carry an anointing!
