The greatest sermon ever
“After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days he has spoken to us in a son” (Heb. 1:1-2 NET).
God spoke through the prophets in many ways and at different times. The teachers of the law and the scribes taught the people out of the books they had at the time. The prophets prophesied, and the scribes give sermons about who God is, what He wants from us, what His plans are, etc. But things took a different turn the day Jesus was born.
The scripture above from the NET translation states that “in these last days he (God) has spoken to us in a son.” Did you notice that the grammar does not sound right? The reason is because the direct translation from the Greek is “in a son” and there is really no better way to convey that meaning in English. God has revealed Himself to us today in a Son. That means He revealed Himself as a Man—the Word that became flesh. He did not give any lectures, sermons, or inspirations. He came as a Human Being so that we could really see what God looks like. The greatest revelation of God or the greatest sermon that can ever be preached is a person. As Jesus was, so you are today. The greatest sermon God can ever deliver through you today to the world around you is you. Your life is designed to an expression and a revelation of God on the earth. You are born to reveal God!
