“For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’” (2 Cor. 6:16 NKJ.)
What is God’s purpose in filling you with His Spirit? Yes, you are now filled with the Spirit. What next? God’s purpose for sending His Spirit to dwell inside of you is not so you can speak in tongues or manifest spiritual gifts. These are things that will certainly accompany the infilling of the Spirit, but they are not the end. What is God seeking to achieve by having His Spirit living inside of you?
These questions take us to the very root of God’s eternal purpose for heaven and the earth, as stated in 1 Cor. 6:16 above. His purpose for the earth is for Him to dwell in His people through Christ.
The first step to the fulfillment of this purpose in your life occurred when you were born again. You were made a partaker of Christ, sharing His nature. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ that comes in to dwell inside of you to fully manifest Christ in you. His one and single purpose is to mature you to the fullness of Christ so that Christ will begin to live in you, in whatever you are doing, including day to day activities and ministry. He wants to use the Word to mature your spirit “until Christ is formed” in you (Gal.4:19) and your character, personality, words, and actions are manifestations of Christ living on earth. His purpose is to dwell and live on earth in His people.
What does the Spirit use to “form Christ” in you? See 2 Cor. 3:18 and James 1:23-25.
