Who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee (2 Cor. 1:22 NKJ).
The seal of the Holy Spirit is God’s mark on the believer indicating that they belong to Him. When you are taking a flight, the airline attendant will tie a tag sealed with a sticker onto your bag. That seal becomes a mark, an indicator, that the bag belongs to you. This is one modern day example of the idea of a seal.
In his commentary series, Harris identifies three related concepts that are entangled in the word “seal”: ownership, authentication, and security (1). God did so much more than mark us as His own when we received Christ (ownership). He also authenticated our sonship, thereby confirming that we are truly what He says we are. Finally, He pledged Himself to protect what He has sealed.
An airline attendant seals our bag with a sticker, but God seals His children by giving them His Spirit. Everyone who accepts Christ is sealed with the Spirit at salvation. This is what makes them a child of God to begin with.
You are sealed with the Holy Spirit. You belong to Christ. In fact, God has authenticated this by putting His seal on you to confirm that you are truly His. He is always ready to prove it to anyone who asks! You are in very safe hands. There is no room for fear and uncertainty; You are a child of God! Know who you are and to whom you belong!
Did you realize that there is a divine mark on you? Declare that “I am sealed with the Holy Spirit. I belong to God. And I am indeed what He says I am!”.
APPLY THE WORD
The next time Satan attempts to claim ownership over any part of your life, remind him sternly whose child you are!
Thank the Lord for placing His mark on you.
