And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be (Revelation 22:12, KJV)
In the last book of the Bible(Revelation) and in the last chapter of the book, John heard the words above from the mouth of Jesus Himself saying, “behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be”.
First, He says He is coming quickly. That was more than 2,000 years ago! One day with the Lord is like 1000 years, so for the Lord, it is as though it has only been 2 days since He left! He wants us to always live with the sense of urgency of His coming. In fact, for most of us, we might not be here when Jesus returns. We will sleep, that is, no longer be alive before He comes. Almost all of us reading this will not be here in the next 100 years if the Lord does not come. That means you will be with the Lord in less than 100 years, whether He comes or not!
Secondly, He says His reward is with Him. He will reward everyone according to their works. I know someone might say, “I thought it is by grace and not our works!”. I have taught many times about this. Grace has works! Be sure, there is a record of your life and your service to God. Christ will reward you according to your works. Awake from sleep, walk-in righteousness, do the Father’s business for the time is short.
Did you ever imagine that in less than 100 years, you will be with the Lord? What works will you show Him when He finally returns?
