For who hath despised the day of small things? (Zechariah 4:10, KJV)
There is nothing too small in the hands of our God. The Jews who were rebuilding the Temple could have been discouraged when they compared what they were building with the magnificent Temple that was destroyed. It was as though what they were doing was nothing. However, the LORD spoke to them through the prophet Zechariah and encouraged them not to despise the days of small things. In fact, He told them the glory of the later Temple will far exceed the glory of the former Temple!
One of the subtle tests of our faith will occur when God asks us to do things without seeing the kind of results we are expecting. He commanded the people to build, but the Temple they were making was of little worth in their eyes compared to the prior Temple. Yet God commanded them to continue building. Some of you have been faithful to God in that ministry but not seeing the kind of results you expect, yet you continue to pray, seek the Lord and do His work. Or maybe you have just a small amount of capital for that business that seems to be nothing, yet the Lord commands you t be faithful in what you are doing.
Do not despise the days of small things in your life. These days of small things are often the days that God uses to refine our character, build our base and prepare to launch us like a rocket upwards!
Can we be unfaithful in the little tasks God has commanded us and then become faithful when God grants us greater responsibilities? ( Luke 16:10).
APPLY THE WORD
Put in all your efforts into whatever “small thing” God has given you. Yes, you may not have the “big thing” you are waiting for but the Lord is watching what you are doing with the “little thing” you have now! Do not take the days of small beginnings lightly.
Ask the Lord to help you remain faithful and diligent in little or much.
