What To Do With Jealousy

Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy? (Prov. 27:4 NKJ)

The scripture above presents an interesting comparison between anger and jealousy. It describes the rage of anger and wrath by stating that wrath is cruel and anger is a torrent, highlighting the potential havoc that these negative emotions can cause. The wise man Solomon tells us that only fools are hasty to be angry and keep anger in their bosom, because that anger will only destroy something in their lives (Eccl. 7:9.)

However, Solomon states in our scripture above that anger is nothing when compared to jealousy! Who can stand before jealousy?

Jealousy in this context is simply envy of someone or their achievements. It is a feeling of discontent or even resentment when others succeed, especially when you desired the same success but do not have it. Envy is a silent killer. Anger at least could easily be noticed sometimes, but envy can go on completely concealed.

What do you do when you find yourself envious of others? You must bring that emotion to God, just as you would bring lust, depression, anxiety, etc. Do not pretend it is not there or try to conceal it. You will have to throw yourself on Him by trusting that He is caring for you and has all you need.

He says in the scriptures, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: ‘The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?'” (Heb. 13:5-6 NKJ.)

There is no need to be envious of anybody, for God is your Shepherd, Helper, and Caregiver!
