The Reality of the New Creation
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV)
The believer in Christ is a new creature. Paul speaks emphatically in the verse above and says if any person receives Christ, he or she is becomes a new creature. This is one of the most astounding statements in scripture. In case you have not fully grasped what this means. I want you to reread the creation story in Genesis 2:7
“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” ( KJV).
God created man from the dust of the ground and breathed the spirit into him, and man became a living creature. This is a synopsis of the creation of man. 2 Corinthians 5:17 above says God has repeated this process, except that He has upgraded the version of the man He created!
The new creation in Christ is a reality, not just some fancy doctrine that we believe. The day Christ came into your heart, the Spirit of God through the Word of God, recreated you. You are a brand new creation. God has given us a fresh start in life, and truly old things are passed away. It is only a matter of time.
The major difficulty we have in fully accepting this truth is that the part of us which we are in touch with the most, that is the soul and the body, has not yet entered fully into this reality. We are in a transitory, temporary phase now on the earth, still living with the old soul and body. In this phase, God has commanded us to use His Word and yield to His Spirit to transform us. Even then, the present soul and the body are still part of the old. When Jesus returns, a new kind of body will be given to us. This body will not be made from the dust of the ground like the first Adam. It will be made from heaven. When this new body arrives, then the fullness of what God says about the new creation will be revealed for the first time for all to see. It will be a display of the glorious handiwork of God in Christ. Even angels are excited and waiting for this day when the Children purchased by grace will be fully revealed!
MEDITATE
How did God create the first man Adam? ( See Gen. 2:7 above). How has He created us in Christ?
