The Purpose of Your Body

The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body (1 Corinthians 6:13, ESV)

The Lord tells us in the verse above that our bodies are not for sexual immorality but for the Lord. He created the human body to be a dwelling place for Him on the earth. That means when God created Adam, He made the body with a capacity to be a house for Him. He already had plans to come and dwell on the earth. However, He was not going to live in a physical house but in the human body.

There is a higher purpose attached to our bodies. It is at the center of the eternal plan of God for the earth. Satan knows it, and he is doing everything possible to ruin  God’s purposes for our lives. Sin is sin, but not all sins are the same. The scripture clearly teaches us that.  He says of all sins that we commit, there is just one that we commit not only against God but our own bodies:

“Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18, ESV)

Beyond this, sexual immorality is a defilement of God’s Temple. Sexuality is one of the softest spots of human nature, and Satan is maximizing this weakness to the full. It is almost as though he has released the best of his demons from hell to fill every little space on earth to entice us, humans, to defile our bodies through sexual immorality. He knows what he is doing. He is targeting God’s eternal purpose, and that is you.

Your body and spirit are the Lord’s. You are wired for the glory of God. You are not part of the world’s system. Be holy in spirit and body for the glory of  God!

Why does the Lord not want us to defile our bodies in any way?

Your body is precious to God. There is an eternal purpose attached. Maintain your body, knowing who is living inside of it.

Ask the Lord to help you take of your body for His glory.
