The Impact of Our Thoughts on Faith
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb (Rom. 4:19 KJV)
We know that faith is not in the realms of the mind. You do not believe in God with your mind but with your spirit man. However, the mind plays a critical part in the operation of faith. It is often the birthplace of unbelief that can completely stall the operation of faith.
The scripture above says Abraham “considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old.” God had told him that Sarah would have a child when she was 90 years old while Abraham was 99! He heard the Word from God that He will have a child. However, he did not dwell, consider, give thought to or take into account the fact that he was about a hundred years old and Sarah was almost twice the age of menopause.
If he had given his mind over to take into account all the natural factors surrounding his situation, his faith would undoubtedly have had a shipwreck. There is tremendous power in the mind. What you think and dwell on will certainly become amplified and take over your life. Your mind has a huge impact on the operation of your faith. It is often the origin of fear. The moment the negative circumstances take over your mind, your focus becomes deviated from the Word and you will begin sinking as Peter did on the water.
Follow the steps of Abraham. Keep your mind on the Word. Refuse to consider the deadness of any situation around you.
MEDITATE
Do you think Abraham was also tempted to think on the fact that it is naturally possible for a barren woman in menopause to conceive? Declare “I refuse to consider any dead circumstance attempting to deviate my focus from the Word.”
APPLY THE WORD
Abraham is gone. You are on the stage now. What you think and dwell on will become magnified. If you look at the impossibilities of the situation, your faith will have a shipwreck. Refuse to consider the deadness of any circumstance that is challenging you!
PRAY
Ask the Spirit to strengthen you in faith as Abraham was strengthened.
