The Feast of Pentecost for everyone, everyday!
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:4 kjv)
We continue with day 6 of Deshen Daily miniseries on the Feast of Pentecost. The Feast of Pentecost in the Old Testament was a once-a-year feast that occurs 50 days after Passover at the time of the wheat harvest. However, in the New Testament, Pentecost is an all-year-round feast for the people of God!
Pentecost is not for Pentecostals or for a select group of super-ministers. In fact, the key distinction of the Spirit’s work in the NT compared to the OT is that every one of God’s people in the NT receives the Spirit in contrast to a few who did in the OT.
When the crowd saw and heard the manifestations of the Spirit and thought the disciples were drunk, Peter quoted prophet Joel and said:
“But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:” (Acts 2:16–17 kjv)
The outpouring of the Spirit is upon “all flesh”. The gift of the Spirit is for you and your children and all those that the LORD will call! The Father is still in the business of reaping the harvest of firstfruits from the earth. He is still filing people with the Spirit for a heavenly life.
MEDITATE
What comes to your mind when you hear the word “pentecost” today? Does this mindset hinder you from seeing Pentecost as it really is, as discussed above?
APPLY THE WORD
Pentecost is for all believers, whatever label we have given to ourselves: Charismatic, Conservative, Pentecost, non-Pentecostal, etc. I pray that the Body of Christ fully embraces His Church!
PRAY
Ask the Father to bring His Church to embrace the realities of Pentecost and breach the doctrinal divisions that have plagued us for years.
