See the value of spiritual things
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. (Matt. 7:6 )
Jesus is essentially saying here, that no one will give a valuable treasure unto pigs. Why? They do not know the value as much as you do! The attention and care we give to the things we have are based on our perception of their value to us. We attribute value to things based on different criteria. Some things are valuable because of their cost, while others derive their value because of the memories attached to them. Still, other things are important because of their potential impact on the quality of our lives.
The importance we ascribe to something is based on our perception of its value, which in turn colors our attitude towards it. As believers, until we are able to see value in our faith, and the things we have and do, we will not relate to them with the care that they deserve. Some believers might find it quite difficult to spend money purchasing resources to teach them what the Word says about a challenge they might be facing. But a similar amount of money can easily be spent on other things without any second thought. Why? We often do not value spiritual things. In fact, we sometimes expect that it should not cost us anything. But until we also see the value of the Word of God or the spiritual devices we have, we will not make any sacrifices. It is sad that believers often do not see the value of what they have- prayer, church family, the Name of Jesus, the Holy Spirit within you, the Word of God, etc. Part of the reasons why is because many just have not seen any benefits on their faith on their lives here and now.
God will not commit to us what we do not treasure. Is your faith of any value to you? Until we truly see the importance of what we have as believers, we will be casual and lukewarm about the things of the kingdom. And this will be seen in how we relate to spiritual things. Jesus came to bless us, not only in heaven but here on earth. There is value in our faith, with both eternal and earthly benefits. We are not wasting our time and energy. Be confident about your faith, and see its true value.
