By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name(Heb. 13:15 KJV).

Spiritual sacrifices are the reality( the real thing, the truth) of what Old Testament animal sacrifices represented(shadows of the real). In Hebrews 13:15, we are encouraged to offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually. The word “continually” brings to mind the daily burnt offerings in the Old Testament that were to be offered continually every day. In the New Testament, God no longer wants animal sacrifices. In fact, God never liked them ( Hebrew 10:8). Rather than dead animal offerings, the Lord wants living human beings—your body, your heart, and your activities as the real sacrifices God desires.

The sacrifice of praise is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. When you open your mouth and speak a word of praise to God, those words are spiritual sacrifices that are well-pleasing to God because you are a true worshipper—having a new spirit, filled with the Spirit of God and able to connect and reach God’s heart, in God’s world and in God’s way! Furthermore, Hebrews 13:15 is a quotation of Hosea 14:2, which says: 

Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: Say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: So will we render the calves of our lips (Hosea 14:2 KJV). 

Hosea calls our words “the calves of our lips”—sheep and bulls being offered to the Lord!!
