How to Renew your mind

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2, KJV)

The secret to Christian transformation and daily victory lies in a renewed mind. But how do we achieve this renewal?

Understanding the scripture’s definition of a “renewed mind” is vital. It’s not just about altering thoughts but encompasses one’s mental disposition, the inner man of the heart – including feelings, desires, and the resulting character. To renew is to make new: to get a new mind, the mind of Christ, the mind of the Spirit, a mind set on the things of heaven. It implies  a switch from the mind of the flesh(the old mind) to the mind of the Spirit( Romans 8:5-8).

So, how does one renew their mind? The scriptures show us two principal things that will change our minds: acquiring the knowledge of God and meditation.

 Paul offers insights:

“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” (Colossians 3:10, KJV)

The Greek phrase “renewed in knowledge” is renewed unto or to knowledge, suggesting that the act of renewal paves the way to knowing God more intimately. Thus the knowledge of God is both the end and the means of the renewal. This concept isn’t just spiritual; acquiring knowledge can shift one’s perspective even in worldly matters. The knowledge of God has the power to bring about profound internal transformation. Paul vividly illustrates this transformative power in 2 Corinthians:

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. This transformation stems from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18, ESV)

Each encounter with Christ through the Word, as you meditate on it, sparks a profound transformation within. As you behold Him, you gradually begin to think and act like Him. So by intimately knowing Him, your external character and personality mirror His essence.
