The Nehemiah Strategy: Building and Fighting
They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. (Nehemiah 4:17 KJV)
Today, let’s concentrate on the Nehemiah strategy, an essential approach for every believer and minister in their spiritual journey. This strategy requires building and fighting simultaneously to overcome challenges and fulfill our God-given purposes.
God actively rebuilds our lives, families, and relationships while constructing His Church and kingdom. Many of us come to Christ bearing the scars of sin, akin to cities with shattered walls, like the prodigal son. Through His Word and Spirit, God initiates the process of rebuilding our lives. However, this process encounters spiritual resistance, similar to the opposition Nehemiah faced while reconstructing Jerusalem’s walls.
As Nehemiah had to reconstruct Jerusalem’s walls amid enemy attacks, we must also be prepared to construct and battle concurrently. His men carried building materials in one hand and weapons in the other, ready for both tasks. Similarly, as God transforms our spiritual lives or ministries to rebuild people’s lives, we will face resistance from various adversaries.
Recognizing the necessity of constructing and battling simultaneously is vital for every Christian, particularly ministers. Engaging in the good fight of faith is essential for the successful building of God’s House. Moreover, every building project attracts opposition, so be prepared to construct and combat.
Meditate
Reflect on Nehemiah 4:17. How does this apply to your life or ministry?
Apply the Word
Keep in mind that if God is at work in your life, prepare for spiritual conflict. Be proactive in fighting temptations to sin, distractions, fleshly desires, and opposition—even from within the Church. One of the fiercest enemies you will confront will be yourself—your fleshly desires. Remember, we are in a spiritual battle, not a physical conflict with people. As you face these challenges, rely on the wisdom and power of the Holy Spirit.
Pray
Ask the Father to help you construct and battle without becoming discouraged, trusting in His guidance and strength.
