Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin
And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN (Daniel 5:25, KJV)
Belshazzar, the Babylonian King who took over from Nebuchadnezzar, organized a “wild drinking party” using the holy vessels from God’s Temple in Jerusalem. While he was drinking and praising his idols, a hand appeared from God and wrote on the wall “mene, mene, tekel, upharsin” which was a message that his kingdom was taken away from him and given to the Medes and the Persians.
Many kings and rulers have shown contempt for God and His people like Belshazzar. The fact that the LORD appears “quiet” about it does not mean He has lost control of what is happening in the world. Sometimes as Christians, we might be tempted to think Christianity will be wiped out someday because many presidents or rulers are against it.
The good news is that the God of “mene, mene, tekel, upharsin” is not dead! We are not fighting a lost battle. He sees the kings of the earth and knows what they are doing. He is extending grace for people, including kings, to be saved. Do not be shaken. You are on the side of the Lord who is the King of kings and Lord of lords. One of these days, He will show up, and the world will realize that He has always been in charge.
MEDITATE
Has God lost control of the world to human beings or to Satan? Is He “afraid” of great nations, kings or presidents in the earth? Is your faith standing on shaky grounds?
APPLY THE WORD
Pray for the leaders of the nations. Satan is the god of this world, working through world leaders to carry out his plans. God loves politicians, presidents, leaders and kings of the earth. Pray for the leaders of the nations, and do not be afraid of what they might try to do with the faith.
PRAY
Ask the Lord to help the leaders of the nations believe the truth of the Gospel.
