Your Life is From Faith to Faith
“For the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel from faith to faith, just as it is written, ‘The righteous by faith will live’” (Rom. 1:17 NET).
Christianity and your walk with God is from faith to faith. It starts with faith and it will end with faith. The same way you received salvation when you were a sinner, coming to the Savior with no good works to show, is the way you will receive healing as a believer. It is from faith to faith! There is something tragic and extremely saddening that happens to many believers after they get born again and enter the church circle. After a few years in the faith, they gradually make a shift from faith to works.
The Galatian Christians were a prototype of a whole congregation of believers who made a seismic spiritual shift, going from faith to works. After they were saved by believing in Christ, a group of Jewish preachers came to the church after Paul left and told them they also had to be circumcised according to the Jewish laws in order to be saved. The Galatians started getting circumcised, a sign of keeping the law. For this they got the worst rebuke ever recorded in scripture for God’s children: “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth?” (Gal. 3:1 NKJ). It only takes a spell, spiritual witchcraft, for them to do what they did! They had moved from trusting in Christ to trying to earn their own salvation. They were falling from grace, to works. Paul told them, “Are you so foolish? Although you began with the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by human effort?” (Gal. 3:3 NET). Your life in Christ is from faith to faith. Do not get mature in Christianity and start thinking that the things you can now do as a Christian, such as prayer, Bible reading, giving, tithing, evangelism, etc., can make you earn God’s blessing and favor. Do not move from faith to works. Abide in faith!
MEDITATE
Why do you think we are tempted to shift from faith to works as we spend more time in the faith?
APPLY THE WORD
One of the dangers of this dangerous shift to works is that it is often so subtle that many believers do not realize it. Do some work with the Holy Spirit today to show you areas in your life where works (of the law) might have replaced faith.
PRAY
Ask the Lord to keep you from this spiritual witchcraft, and from falling off the platform of grace to works without realizing it.
