For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith (Mark 11:23, KJV)
Mark 11:23 is God’s prescription for the operational aspects of our faith for victory over all circumstances in life. I encourage you to pay attention to understand fully, believe and put this verse to work and repeat this cycle again and again…and then again! Let me show you one of the most outstanding revelations in this verse that if often overlooked.
The term “mountain” here figuratively refers to challenges, obstacles or problems we encounter in life. Jesus says we can speak to a mountain and remove it from our way. This is beautiful. It is one of the strangest things in our faith that we can talk to problems and get results. The world hears about it and laughs at us to scorn. Even many Christians in some circles mock other Christians who believe it and call them “name it claim it”. Yet it is true that we can speak to mountains and see results. It is how God works. By the Spirit of God, you can operate like God does, and speak to things and see results.
However, there are two mountains in this verse. Many of us often see just one, the obvious one, that is, the mountain outside which may be a financial need, disease, demonic oppression, addiction, depression, etc. There is another mountain inside. It is the first mountain that has to be removed before the mountain outside will move. This mountain is described in the words “and shall not doubt in his heart”. There is a mountain of unbelief in the heart that must first be removed before the other mountain outside will move. If you want to see the results promised in this verse, pay attention to this mountain inside. 99.9% of our so-called faith declarations are often obstructed by this mountain called doubt or unbelief inside. It is a mountain that others do not see. In fact, even the one that has the mountain inside is sometimes not aware of it.
I repeatedly teach that you should pay attention to your heart. Speaking “words of faith” with doubt snd unbelief ruling in your heart is a waste of your time, efforts, and resources and one of the most common causes of our frustrations in Christianity. Remember, Jesus did not say speak to the mountain and you will see results. He said speak to the mountain and not doubt in your heart. Get to work. Pick up your spade and start digging that mountain of unbelief out of your heart so that you can begin to subdue every other mountain before you.
What are the two mountains in Mark 11:23 discussed above? Is it possible for us to speak faith words without faith in our hearts? What do you think happens when you “act in faith” without true faith in the heart?
APPLY THE WORD
You can train your heart to believe God. You can work on your heart and gradually remove unbelief and build faith. The Word is the faith builder. Train yourself in the Word.
Ask the Spirit to help you become willing to pick up your spade and start digging that mountain inside of you that is obstructing your breakthroughs in life.
