Eating the Fruit of Your Lips

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. (Prov. 18:21 NASB)

The scripture above teaches us a critical lesson in life: There is tremendous power in our words. Your mouth can speak words that will produce either death or life in your family, health, finances, relationships, etc.

When we use our mouths to speak words, we will certainly “eat its fruit,” meaning we will reap the consequences of what we have said. Many believers still do not take this seriously. They think it is merely referring to the physical aspects of our words that can hurt or build people up. Most of us have spoken words to someone that we regretted later. The scripture above is more profound than the direct physical consequences of our words. Words are spiritual, and their greatest impact is on the spiritual powers that they release. Some people think it is simply cultural or cool to say things such as “You’re killing me” or “ I’m sick as a dog!” You are preparing your life for death or sickness by saying such words. Do not allow death to come out of your mouth! Speak life! Speak God’s Word over your situation. Declare that “by His stripes you are healed”, or “No weapon formed against me shall prosper”!

MEDITATE

Think carefully about the scripture above. What comes out of your mouth: life or death?

PRAY

Ask the Lord to help you train your lips.

ACT NOW!

Beware of cultural norms that train you to speak death over your life. There are no jokes or slang in the realm of the spirit. People are eating the fruit of their own lips without realizing they planted the seeds with their mouth. Be intentional today. Do not let death come out of your mouth, but choose to speak only life.
