Our Most Costly Error in Life
Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever! (Deut. 5:29 NKJ)
The greatest error an unsaved person will ever make in their lives is to reject God’s Word that brings salvation. It is the one and costly error of a lifetime. As believers, however, there is a similar error we should not make. It is not the rejection of God’s Word that brings salvation but the neglect of God’s Word that makes everything to be well with us here and now[JS1].
This is the one and most costly mistake we are all making every day. The scripture above gives us God’s perspective on this error. He said “Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them.”
You pay attention to the Word by diligently receiving it continually into your heart and doing what it says. We neglect His Word when any of these two processes are undermined.
There are many reasons why we do not constantly receive God’s Word, amongst which are “the cares of this life” noted in Matt 13:22. And there are other reasons why we sometimes do not do what God says. Whatever interrupts receiving the Word and doing it in your life is an enemy of your wellbeing, happiness, and enjoyment of life in this present world.
The scripture above says, “that it might be well with them.” That is the secret of enjoying God’s life here on earth. God wants you to enjoy life, and this life is in His Word.
