Come and See the Works of God

Come and see the works of God: He is terrible in his doing toward the children of men. (Psalm 66:5, KJV)

Have you ever felt a sense of awe so powerful that it left you breathless? This is the invitation God offers here: to step closer and witness His mighty works. The psalmist calls us to pause, open our eyes, and recognize God’s power and presence woven into creation and our lives. “Come and see” is not merely an invitation to observe; it’s a call to marvel, remember, and be transformed by the realization of God’s active hand.

But what does it really mean to “come and see”? Why does God call us to be intentional about this? The word “come” speaks to an invitation that requires a deliberate step away from our routine to take notice. It might mean pausing to consider His power, wisdom, and greatness as you look into the heavens. God doesn’t force us to see His works; He gently invites us to draw near and look closely. “See” implies more than just a glance—it means stopping to truly observe, to notice with reverence and gratitude. When we take time to recognize God’s hand, we cultivate a heart that is not only awed but also deeply thankful, reminded of God’s presence and power in every season.

When the psalmist speaks of God’s “terrible” works, as the KJV phrases it, it does not mean frightening but awe-inspiring and mighty. God’s actions—from the miracle of a sunrise to the transformation of hearts—reflect His power and faithfulness. He works in ways we often miss unless we slow down and pay attention. Coming to see God’s works isn’t only about looking back; it’s also about living with expectancy, knowing He is still working in our lives and world today.

Here’s the powerful lesson: noticing God’s power, wisdom, and greatness in creation, history, and our daily lives is essential. It builds a consciousness of His presence, a holy reverence for His majesty, and an expectation of His intervention in our times of trouble. Few things will fill your life with awe, a continual sense of worship, and the praise of God’s presence like seeing His hand in and around you. Look for His presence in both big and small things—a moment of peace in a busy day, a friend’s encouragement, or an unexpected blessing.

Meditate

What personal moments of God’s faithfulness or awe-inspiring acts have you experienced? Reflecting on these moments can strengthen your relationship with Him today.

Act on the Word

Today, write down at least three ways you’ve experienced God’s work recently. Thank Him for each moment, and ask Him to continue opening your eyes to His presence daily.

Pray

Lord, thank You for Your mighty works in my life. Open my eyes to see Your hand in all things, and help me walk in awe and gratitude for Your presence. Amen.
