As the Days of Noah Were

But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be  (Matthew 24:37, KJV)

Jesus says His second coming back to the earth will be as the days of Noah. Well, the next verse tells us what precisely the Master was thinking about when He made this comparison:

“For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark” (Matthew 24:37–38, ESV)

This comparison has two critical aspects which I  to emphasize— the activities of the people and the sudden devastating judgment of God.  Noah was warning the people of the coming judgment but they went about their usual, normal day to day activities —eating and drinking, getting married, going to work or school, visiting friends and family, etc. Life was as normal as it had always been, except for one  “crazy” preacher called Noah who said there will be a flood contrary to all what the “weather experts, meteorologists and scientists” of his day had predicted.

However, there was a sudden divine judgment that erased life from the surface of the earth leaving only Noah and his family with him. Jesus says it will be similar when He returns. Life will be as normal as it has always been. Politicians will be preparing their campaign speeches. Doctors will be rounding on patients in hospitals. Teachers will be doing what they have ever done and then suddenly something will happen.

The frightening thing is that the judgment that will come upon those who do not know Jesus is so terrible that Sodom and Gomorrah, as well as the flood in Noah’s day, will be pale in comparison. Remember eternity as you live daily and be prepared to meet with the Lord. Remember the lost, for it is not the Father’s will that any one of them should perish. They are blindly choosing to reject Jesus to their destruction.

MEDITATE

What if Jesus comes today? What would you be doing?  Who will you be hanging around with? What will you tell Him about your life and ministry He called you into?

APPLY THE WORD

When that Trumpet will sound, things and people who are so elevated today will suddenly lose all value in our eyes. What will stand is your relationship with the Lord and what you did for the kingdom. Be ready for eternity.

PRAY

Pray that the Lord to keep you according to His word until that day. Also ask that there will be a great harvest of souls, opening their eyes to see and rescuing them from the eternal destruction of hell to spend eternity with the Father.
