While Joseph thought on these things
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 1:20 KJV)
Imagine a few months to your marriage, and your fiancé tells you she had a heavenly visitation and is pregnant with the Messiah. Pregnant without sexual intercourse, with the Messiah of Israel? What?? Trying to use the Bible to explain your cheating on me??? Etc. Just think of the emotional trauma of Joseph. The verse above says Joseph was thinking about these things, as every one of us would do.
He had sleepless nights, bothered by the thoughts. In fact, he went to bed thinking about the issues, and an angel appeared to him in a dream, most probably at night, but we are not told. Joseph’s story reminds us of how the Lord works with us. He encountered Joseph as he was thinking about it. As Joseph moved, God met him! Does that sound familiar?
God still works with us as such today. There are some things you will know what to do only if you set your mind to seek out what to do. As you begin to consider, the Spirit of the Lord will direct you to the solution.
MEDITATE
Why do you think Joseph wanted to end the relationship and put Mary away? Did he not believe her? Was it too much for him to deal with? NB. The answer is not given to us in the Christmas story.
APPLY THE WORD
God will only meet you in certain things when you set your mind to know them. Learn to take a moment to think about how you can solve that financial, marital, health, or even family problem. As you seek an answer by thinking of a way out, He will meet you.
PRAY
Ask the Father to meet you as you always set your mind to know your way out of that tight corner.
