We Have the Mind of Christ
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16, KJV)
It’s a profound truth that we have the mind of Christ. Hidden in this statement are mysteries about the new creation and how the Spirit of God works in us. When you understand and apply this truth, it can transform how you live and minister. Here are key concepts to help grasp this revelation.
1. Understanding the Mind of Christ
The term mind (Greek nous) refers to our faculty to think, the thoughts we produce, and our way of thinking. So, when we speak of the “mind of the Lord” or “mind of Christ,” we refer to Christ’s thoughts, ideas, plans, and purposes—what Christ is thinking.
2. God’s Thoughts are Hidden
God’s thoughts are hidden from people and even from principalities and powers. In 1 Corinthians 2, Paul explains how God planned Christ’s coming and salvation, but even the angels were unaware. So, God’s plans and purposes remain hidden from human and angelic knowledge.
3. Only the Spirit of God Knows God’s Thoughts
The thoughts of God are known only by the Spirit of God. Paul writes, no one knows the mind of a person except their spirit (1 Corinthians 2:11). In the same way, only the Spirit of God knows God’s thoughts and reveals them to us. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s thoughts can be known.
4. The Spirit of God Gives Us Access to God’s Mind
When you have the Spirit of God, you have access to the mind of God. So when God gave us His Spirit, He gave us access to His thoughts. He didn’t replace our minds but gave us His Holy Spirit, through whom we can know what He is thinking. Since the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, we truly have the mind of Christ.
5. How Does the Spirit Reveal God’s Thoughts?
Many may wonder: How do we know these thoughts? Dreams, visions, and prophetic insights are part of it, but that’s not the whole story. Paul is not referring to external manifestations here. Instead, you will often simply know things as if they are your own thoughts—but they are from the Spirit of Christ. He is one with you—your mind becomes His mind! The more you grow in your relationship with Him, the clearer His thoughts will become.
6. Practical Implications
Take a moment to reflect on what this means. You have the ability to know what Christ is thinking about your life, family, finances, health, community, etc. This ability to know God’s mind is the prophetic! As a Christian, you are prophetic by birth because Christ’s mind is revealed to you through the Holy Spirit.
These truths remain dormant until we grow in revelation and faith. As we mature, we’ll see them produce fruit in our lives.
Let the mind of Christ flourish in every area of your life!
Meditate
Reflect on the six points above. How do they apply to your life today?
Apply the Word
As you grow in maturity, you’ll know what Christ is thinking about your circumstances. Whether through dreams, visions, or an inner knowing, you will start thinking like Him. Let the mind of Christ be active in you.
Pray
Thank the Father for giving us His Spirit, making us one with Christ, and granting us access to His thoughts.
