The Seed of the Woman
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel (Gen. 3:15 KJV).
The verse above is literally speaking about the ongoing conflict between human beings (seed of the woman), and poisonous snakes (seed of the serpent). However, we understand that there is more to this verse than the literal struggle between human beings and snakes. As soon as Adam fell from his position in glory, the Lord immediately promised that a seed of the woman would crush Satan’s head. The seed of the woman is the Seed of Abraham, who is Christ Jesus.
The Lord said He was going to save humanity through a Man. He will not come as an angel, but as a human being. Satan has always been at war, looking for the Seed of the woman to destroy. We saw this in Egypt, when Moses was born, and all male babes were forcefully killed. The same scenario replayed when Christ Himself was born.
Praise the Lord that Christ came! Praise the Lord that He was born! His birth is a testimony of the faithfulness of our God. The Seed of the woman was born on a day we now celebrate as Christmas. It is the fulfillment of the promise of Genesis 3:15. Satan bit Christ’s heel on the cross, but He crushed Satan’s head with absolute victory.
MEDITATE
Can you see the spiritual struggle behind Herod’s action to destroy all the babes under 2 years of age in Bethlehem? Why did Jesus have to come as the Seed of the woman (Her. 2:14)?
APPLY THE WORD
If the Seed of the woman is already here, it means Satan’s head has already been crushed! But we also remember that Christ’s heel was bruised for our freedom. This is Christmas. It is the celebration of the coming of the Seed of the woman!
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the fulfillment of His promise, in sending the Seed of the woman to save us.
