The Hope that Easter Brings
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4, KJV)
The climax of Easter is the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. His death is crucial, but without the resurrection, He would be like any other man who died for a cause. Jesus died, was buried, rose from the dead and remains alive since then. When Jesus, as a Man got out of the grave and overcame death, a new world of realities and possibilities was opened to all human beings. The scripture above calls it the “newness of life.”
The death of Christ meant the old order for humans was brought to an end. This change permeated every aspect of our lives, including our nature, our relationship, and our environment. However, when Jesus came out of the grave, He brought a new life for every human being. He gave us the gift of a new start in life. It does not matter what we have done. His blood provides us with the possibility to start all over again in life. Have you ever wished your past was like a text message on your phone that you can tap on “delete” to erase it? Well, the blood of Christ and His resurrection from the dead gives us the reality of a heavenly “delete” button to erase our past life and give us a fresh start.
The scripture says if anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creature. The reality of a new life is a glorious hope that Easter brings.
MEDITATE
Paul was changed from a murderer and persecutor to a world-changer. Is there anyone that is beyond the transforming power of the risen Christ?
APPLY THE WORD
Jesus saved us from the sin in our old life. He can also save you from the errors and mistakes of your past as a believer. Easter reminds us that in Christ, we have the reality of a new life, and the possibility to reset our lives again as we trust and depend on Him. Look at the empty grave and let hope arise in your heart no matter what giant is in your past that is hunting you down.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for sending His Son to give us new hope in life.
