Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? (Jeremiah 23:29 KJV)

We conclude our mini-series today on spiritual strongholds. We have seen that strongholds are thoughts patterns that are contrary to God’s Truth in our lives. They are strongly guarded opinions we have that, sadly enough, are running our lives in different ways we are not aware of. How do we demolish these strongholds and free ourselves from ourselves? The Lord gives us a weapon as shown in Jeremiah 23:29. His Word is a hammer that will demolish those walls! How does it work?

Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12 KJV)

His Word dissects human hearts, exposes thought patterns, cuts off what has to be removed, and establishes what needs to be there. One of the major obstacles in dealing with strongholds is because they are our opinions or thoughts, we are often blinded to the error. We are  so sure we are correct whereas we are wrong. The only way to free us from ourselves in such circumstances is by God opening the eyes of our hearts and exposing those errors to us. His Word comes into our hearts and brings light to enable us to see errors that we previously thought were truths.

Let God’s hammer breaking strongholds in your heart.

God uses the figure of a hammer to describe His Word. In what way is the Word similar to a hammer?

APPLY THE WORD

Take hold of God’s hammer in your hand and begin demolishing any strongholds in your life. Take the Word of God into your heart; allow it to bring about the changes God sent it to bring. Allow it to change the way you think and renew your mind. Surrender to it rather than hanging on to what you think is correct. 

PRAY

Tell the Spirit you are ready to take God’s hammer and tear down those walls in your life, whether in your spiritual life, finances, marriage, etc.
