The Finger of God
But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. (Lk. 11:20 KJV)
Jesus made the statement above in response to an accusation by the religious Pharisees that He was casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of the devils. He explained that it was not by Beelzebub, but with the “finger of God.”
Matthew clarifies the meaning of the “finger of God” as used by Luke: “But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God . . . ” (Mat. 12:28). Here we see that the finger of God is the Holy Spirit in action. Jesus was casting out demons by the power and authority of the Holy Spirit.
But what power and authority is in a finger? And what does the Lord want to convey by referring to the Holy Spirit as the finger of God? Think of a man in authority who uses his finger to give orders to his subjects. He points at them with his finger and they understand what is being conveyed.
The finger of God represents both the instrument as well as the power and authority by which Jesus cast out the demons. The power of the Holy Spirit lives in you. So, the next time you encounter an evil spirit, point your finger at Satan in the name of Jesus and he will understand it’s time to go! The finger of God is the power of the Holy Spirit operating through you!
MEDITATE
How did Jesus point “His finger” to these demons? See Matt. 8:16. Declare that “I am operating by the finger of God, the power and instrumentality of the Holy Spirit.”
APPLY THE WORD
Is there something going in your life that you need to point the finger of God to? Cast out every evil spirit or spiritual influence out of your life by the finger of God.
PRAY
Thank the Lord for the operation of His finger in our lives. Ask the Spirit to help you learn how to “point God’s finger” against the circumstances challenging your happiness and prosperity in life!
