The Blessing of the Father
And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father (Galatians 4:6 KJV)
Father’s Day in the U.S has been set aside to celebrate the blessing of fathers and fatherhood. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our heavenly Father. In fact, human fatherhood was originally designed by God to represent( as image) the fatherhood of God.
Gal. 4:6 above teaches of what I have called the “blessing of the Father”. It is the Gift the Father has given to us His children. That Gift is the Holy Spirit in our hearts. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of pentecost was indeed the day God adopted fallen humanity into His family. We cry “Abba, Father” when the Spirit is poured out into our hearts. It is an unforced spontaneous cry of affection, relationship and intimacy. My little girls see me and spontaneously cry out “daddy”. That single word “daddy” carries within it the pure and innocent recognition of who they are and their relationship with me.
I can tell you out of experience with the Father and from studying the scriptures: the Lord delights in relating to us as His children. He longs for that innocent, uncorrupted and unforced childlike expression of our sense of attachment and relationship to Him as our Father.
His Blessing to you as your Father is His Holy Spirit in your hearts. He wants to hear you say “Abba, Father”. He longs to for you to know you are His child and He is indeed your Father.
MEDITATE
Please ponder upon our main verse above, and mutter those words over and over again as you soak them in.
APPLY THE WORD
Happy Father’s day to the fathers out there and fathers to be. Above all else, happy Father’s day to the Father of fathers. Yes, you can give the Father a Father’s day gift too. The greatest gift He wants from you is to receive and welcome Him as Father in your life.
PRAY
Take a moment to tell the Father “happy Father’s Day” and that we are grateful He has adopted us into His family.
