Overcome worry today

Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. (Phil. 4:6 NET)

Overcoming worry is one of God’s wonderful gifts to you as a believer. Worry and fear are very faithful friends to a life without God. The world has developed all sorts of self-help strategies to assist people in overcoming worry and anxiety over the issues of life-however,  the things that make people worry and fearful seem to be increasing by the day.

The scripture above says “do not be anxious about anything”, including that very thing that is causing your heart to pound inside your chest today. This instruction is not some psychological self-help strategy to cope with stress. It is full of divine power and life to MAKE YOU not to worry. God’s peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of calm and assurance in the midst of problems. This is what the world cannot fabricate. You should not wait until your problems are settled or resolved before you stop worrying. Catch this truth-the power to change the situation that is causing you to worry is released as you DO God’s Word. You are a spirit being, and your life is controlled from inside of you. The scripture says “Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life” (Prov. 4:23 NET).

The secret to overcoming worry every day is trusting that God cares for you and that He will take care of whatever is causing you anxiety- “casting all your cares on him because he cares for you“. (1 Pet. 5:7 NET). You cast your cares on Him by trusting Him to make a way out. This is God’s design for you to overcome worry every day. As you trust God, the impossible happens. When you trust, you cease worrying. There is no need for you and God to “worry ” about the same thing. You trust and let Him   “worry about” what to do with the situation!

One of the most important things you can do to overcome worry is to keep your mind on God’s Word and not on the issue causing you anxiety. This is so important.”Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isa. 26:3 KJV). Anxiety and fear will be multiplied as YOU THINK about the problem. The Peace of God will overflow in your heart as you think about His Word for the situation. Take a moment and meditate on the verses in this devotional, and let them rule your mind all day today.

It takes divine power to overcome worry, and that power is released as we DO His Word. Ask the Spirit to help you keep your mind on God rather than that financial need, pain, relationship crises etc.

The key to overcoming worry is to DO  what God has said. It is not just doing it mechanically but in trust and faith. No matter how long you have prayed or studied the scriptures, nothing happens until you DO  the Word. God’s  Word to overcome worry is not some tedious commandments like fasting for 40 days that you will think I just cannot do that today. It is simple- “Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God”. (Phil. 4:6 NET). I challenge you to do His Word today and see that it works. Rather than worry where that money will come from, just do what this scripture says-refuse to worry, pray about it and thank God for hearing you. Sounds too simplistic, right? Yes, because God is the One doing it and not you!
