Not Imputing their Trespasses unto them
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them.. (2 Cor. 5:19 KJV)
Our salvation remains a marvel to the angels and an eternal awe-striking thought for humanity. What God has done to the sin of lost humanity, and the gift of righteousness that has been given to those who are in Christ is beyond our wildest imagination. The scripture above says God was “not imputing their trespasses unto them.” This means God did not count the sins of the world against them.
If God counted your sins against you, even after being saved today, you would not be a believer. You will not be in His presence. The very fact that you are a child of God, filled with His Holy Spirit is a witness all by itself that God has not counted your sins against you. Does this mean that sin is no longer sinful? Has God erased the judgment against sin? Certainly not. The reason why our sins are forgiven is given to us in verse 21: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Cor. 5:21 KJV).
God made Christ to become sin itself— not just a sinner so that those who believe in Him might be made the very righteousness of God! Those who reject Christ will ultimately bare the judgment of their sins. Christ is the mercy seat, an atonement cover for those who believe in Him( 1 Joh. 2:2).
MEDITATE
Please think over the words of 2 Cor. 5:21 above carefully. Declare that “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.”
