If These Things Be in You
For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 1:8 KJV)
The Apostle Peter through the Spirit tells us if “these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful”. This is remarkable! What are “these things” that the Lord is exhorting us to have, and increase in them? The previous verses give us what they are.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity (2 Pet. 1:5-7 KJV)
He wants you to add to your faith virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and then charity or love. These are spiritual virtues that will cause you to become productive in every area of your life. Please notice what it says “ if these things be in you”. It means these things are not in everyone, specifically every Christian. You have to develop them in your inner man. This is what spiritual growth is all about. It is not longevity in Church or taking up more spiritual responsibilities. It is increasing in these virtues that create a more Christ-like character in us.
Let these things be in you and grow, and you will be amazed at what your life will become!
MEDITATE
How do you add these things to your life? See 1 Peter 2:2, Acts 20:32.
APPLY THE WORD
You do not grow accidentally in Christ. It has to be purposeful. The three key ingredients are the Word, a life of prayer and fellowship with other believers. Commit to grow in your faith.
PRAY
Ask the Spirit of God to help you grow in your faith.
