I must preach the Kingdom of God to other cities also
And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent (Luke 4:43 KJV)
Jesus visited Capernaum early in His public ministry and performed many miracles while also teaching in the synagogue. The people were amazed. They did what many of us will likely do today. They asked Jesus to stay there in their city. Well, Jesus said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also: for therefore am I sent”.
As a whole, the Church carries this same mandate to preach the Gospel of Christ to other cities also. There is not a single city on earth that is not in dire need of the Gospel. Your city needs the Gospel. Other cities need the Gospel also. However, we are to begin where we are. It is wonderful to change the world, but we begin from where we are.
God’s power to change the world is the message of the Gospel. This truth is so crucial for us to grasp. The power of the Church is not primarily political or military. It is the Gospel that changes the hearts and minds of men and women. Our responsibility is to fill the earth, every city, every nation with the Gospel beginning from our city.
MEDITATE
What does the verse above mean to you? What is the Lord saying to you about your city?
APPLY THE WORD
The Gospel message needs to be advanced. Preach it. Teach it. Pray for lost souls. Ask the Father for trustworthy and honest laborers who care for the work and not their pockets or interests. Let your heart be filled with a burden for your city to be transformed by the power of the Gospel.
PRAY
Ask the Father for a burden in your heart for your city to be saved.
