How the Human Spirit Manifests
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7 KJV)
The human spirit manifests as the vital force or life of the body and of the soul. Please ensure you have read the previous devotionals on the soul, spirit, and the difference between them before proceeding.
The manifestation of the human spirit refers to how the spirit in man expresses or reveals its presence and activities. Like the wind that cannot be seen but moves trees(John 3:8), the human spirit is invisible ( we cannot see or feel it), but its activities are observable( can be perceived). Perception is an umbrella term here that refers to all the physical and psychological senses. For instance, you can perceive with your mind(know) or your hands(touch).
The first manifestation of the human spirit is life in the body. When God breathed the spirit into the body in Gen. 2:7, the lifeless body of Adam turned into a living body with activity, especially breathing. Did you realize that despite our extensive medical knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, you will never hear that scientists have identified an organ in the body or fluid, which is the life of the body? Can you now see why? Biological life comes from the human spirit and is not in itself part of the body though it is perfectly one with it!
The second manifestation of the human spirit is life, or the vital force of the inner psychological life or the mind, emotions, and will. You can think or feel emotion because of the human spirit. When God breathed the spirit into the body, Adam became a living soul—a living being with thoughts, emotions, and will.
This is the critical point in this devotional: you are already active spiritually every single day. You are already a spirit being; you do not need to leave the body and enter the spirit. Your body and soul already manifest and express the human spirit; the spirit exists and manifests itself in the body and the soul. Space will not allow me to explain how critical this truth is entirely, but this is a significant point: a spiritual life is not an out-of-body experience. The Holy Spirit lives and functions in you IN your human spirit as one with it( 1 Cor. 6:17).When we yield to Him, we enter into the world of God’s Spirit, that is, in the Spirit. So the Holy Spirit manifests Himself in the same channels through which the human spirit manifest!
