The heavenly man on the earth

The first man is from the earth, earthy; the second man is from heaven… just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. (1 Cor. 15:47-49 NAS)

In Genesis 1-2, God made man’s body from the dust of the earth. Adam’s spirit came from God, but his body was from the earth, so he was called the earthly man. He was created to function on the earth.

Jesus came as the second Adam on the earth. He is described above as the Man from Heaven. His body came from heaven, not from the natural order of mankind. The last part of the verse above brings us into another realm of this revelation. It says “just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly”. We all bear the image of Adam. We will die, just as Adam died, and return to dust. We function on the earth as he did. By grace, Jesus came as the second Adam, to initiate a new heavenly order of humanity. He wants us to bear His image, the image of a Man from Heaven. We carry a heavenly image while living on earth. Your body and spirit has been recreated to live in heaven. When Jesus returns, the heavenly body will be given to us, and the full glory of the heavenly man will be revealed. Until then, you bear the image of the heavenly Man, so you are entitled to the heavenly life here and now!

MEDITATE

Imagine bearing the image of Jesus right now. Think of what it means for you to be recreated by God, and designed for a heavenly order of life.

PRAY

Thank the Lord Jesus for bringing you into this grace. Ask the Spirit to open your eyes now to see your real citizenship in heaven.

APPLY THE WORD TODAY!

Since we bear the image of heaven, we are to walk and live as a citizen of heaven, even while on earth. Anything that is not permitted in heaven, likewise is not permitted on earth! Heavenly people live heavenly lives in earthly places! Do not talk as earthly people do. Keep your mind on heaven, and live from there while here!
